CDL 2021 Major 5 - Day 1 Preview

Charlie Cater

Tonight the final Major of the 2021 Call of Duty League season gets underway. Here’s the odds, and our preview of tonight's matches.

Seattle Surge (1.63) vs Paris Legion (2.14)

Seattle Surge have struggled online, however at Major 4 they looked insanely competitive, and we expect the same to happen at Major 5. Paris Legion shouldn't be any trouble for the Surge, and this could be a quick 3-0.

However, if Paris Legion are to win this match, they’ll need to get off to a quick start and take the first map, something they’ve only managed to do once in their previous three matchups.

New York Subliners (1.13) vs Los Angeles Guerrillas (5.10)

The New York Subliners have struggled to get off to a great start as a new team. However, while their loss to FaZe was expected, their 3-2 victory over Paris Legion can give them confidence heading into this match. With LAG seemingly unable to win a series at the moment, this is a must win for NYSL.

During Stage 5 there hasn't been much to say about the Guerrillas. Unfortunately, while we’d love to see them be competitive, there’s no way anyone can favor them in this match.

Atlanta FaZe (1.05) vs Minnesota ROKKR (7.60)

Atlanta FaZe head into the Major without the #1 Seed for just the second time this season in Major 5. This means that they’ll be hungrier than ever to secure that win. Previously at Major 4, FaZe dominated ROKKR in a 3-0 win, something that could be replicated here.

However, Minnesota ROKKR have looked a lot better in Stage 5. A 3-2 record saw them lose to Ultra and Empire, with wins over LAG, Surge and Florida. While this looks good on paper, it sets a worrying precedent for this match. Minnesota have struggled against the best teams, and teams don't get much better than FaZe.

Toronto Ultra (1.34) vs LA Thieves (3.00)

Toronto Ultra have looked like one of the best teams in the game since Major 2, and while they suffered a recent loss to Dallas Empire, they continue to impress when it matters. Heading back to LAN, Toronto will want to prove that they’re still one of the best, and we expect them to come out fighting here.

It won't be easy for Toronto though, as LA Thieves recently completed a reverse sweep over OpTic Chicago, giving them great momentum going into the Major. However, in their previous two matchups, Toronto came out on top. So Thieves will need to do something different to win this match.
