CDL 2021 Major 5 - Day 2 Preview

Charlie Cater

Following on from four great matches yesterday, Major 5 continues with four more matches tonight. Here’s the odds, and our preview of tonight's games.

Seattle Surge (1.88) vs London Royal Ravens (1.83)

Seattle Surge dominated Paris Legion in the respawns as they took a 3-1 victory to advance in the losers bracket at Major 5. Prestinni and Octane looked at their best as they tore through Paris. However, their Search and Destroy suffered, and they can't afford to slip up against London.

The London Royal Ravens head into Major 5 following a good Stage 5 pool play. Afro has improved in every single match, and the Ravens seem to be getting better. Taking on Seattle Surge won't be easy, but with a 3-1 loss to them at the last Major, they’ll want to take revenge.

Florida Mutineers (1.69) vs New York Subliners (2.04)

The Florida Mutineers looked great in Stage 5 as they defeated Dallas Empire. However, a 3-0 defeat to Minnesota ROKKR in their final match of the Stage sees them enter the Major in the losers bracket. With a current 0-4 record against the Subliners this season, this will be a tough match for the Mutineers.

It came close for New York, but they narrowly defeated the LA Guerrillas in game five to advance in the losers bracket. Asim stepped up when it was needed with a 12-6 game five, proving that he can take over the game. Heading into this match, NYSL will need to keep the SMGs hot, and silence out Havok and Neptune.

Dallas Empire (1.57) vs Minnesota ROKKR (2.26)

Dallas Empire have looked incredible since Major 4 as they continue to improve with every match. One major improvement has been the performances of iLLeY and Crimsix, as they have both started to dominate in Stage 5.

However, Minnesota ROKKR are coming off the back of a 3-1 win over Atlanta FaZe. This makes them the only team this year to beat FaZe in less than 5 maps, and Standy was exceptional in their victory. Following on from that win, Minnesota have to be favoured tonight.

Toronto Ultra (1.74) vs OpTic Chicago (1.99)

With Atlanta FaZe in the losers bracket, this is Toronto Ultra’s best opportunity to win their second Major of the season. A 2-1 record against OpTic this season with a 4-0 SnD record makes them a great bet for this match.

OpTic Chicago appeared to be a completely new team in Stage 5 as they went 4-1, defeating Atlanta FaZe and securing the #1 seed for Major 5. Scump has been dominating recently, and the King’s experience will be needed in this match.
