CDL Champs - Day 1 Preview

Charlie Cater

Tonight the 2021 Call of Duty League Championship Weekend gets underway. The biggest event of the year is here, and this is all the info you need about day one.

OpTic Chicago (1.31) vs New York Subliners (3.15)

OpTic Chicago always comes out with a little bit extra at Champs, and we expect nothing less in 2021. After a mediocre year, OpTic will want to take home their big one, and after COVID scares with Scump and Envoy, they’ll be giving it everything.

The New York Subliners made yet another roster change bringing Clayster back to the starting roster. This is a great move for the Subliners, as they looked incredible with him earlier in the season. However, has his earlier departure created a bad environment within the team?

In this match, the vetoes are crucial. Garrison Hardpoint needs to be banned from OpTic, and they cannot underestimate NYSL. However, we think they’ll narrowly come out on top.

Minnesota ROKKR (1.93) vs Dallas Empire (1.78)

Minnesota ROKKR have a great opportunity to go back to back in the final events of the year. Following their 5-4 reverse sweep in the Major 5 Grand Finals, anything is possible for this roster.

Dallas Empire however, will also be looking to perform at Champs. Another team that has had a mediocre year, Empire will be looking for back to back Championship wins, and if Shotzzy is on MVP form, it’s possible.

Shotzzy is the key in this match. He needs to be on MVP form, and shutdown the SMGs of Standy and Attach. If he can do this, Empire need to win an SnD as well, as this is ROKKR’s best game mode.

The loser of the OpTic vs Subliners matchup will take on Florida, while the loser of ROKKR vs Empire will take on the Thieves. We expect both losing teams to advance, however the Thieves could definitely make an upset against the Dallas Empire.
