CDL Kickoff Classic - Day 1 Preview

Charlie Cater

This weekend we get to see the first CDL 2021 action with the Kickoff Classic. In this event, all 12 teams will compete in matches voted for by the fans, giving us some of the matchups we all want to see. Here’s our preview of Saturday's matches.

Dallas Empire (1.10) vs New York Subliners (5.30)

Coming off the back of their Championship victory last season, Dallas Empire have all the momentum. With such a strong family feel in this squad, it's hard to see them getting off to a bad start. With some of if not the best players in the game on the roster, Dallas Empire are definitely favourites here.

With Clayster coming over to the New York Subliners for the 2021 season, this is one of the storylines we all wanted to see. Can Clayster take down his old team? We think it’ll be hard, but with the quality they have, it might be worth a shot.

Los Angeles Guerrillas (2.50) vs Seattle Surge (1.44)

Apathy, Assault and Silly were on Evil Geniuses back in 2018, the last 4v4 competitive Call of Duty. With youngster Vivid also on the roster, the Guerrillas definitely have a chance to surprise us all.

Octane, Loony, Gunless and Prestinni will be looking to make an instant impression as a new squad. While Seattle garnered most of their CDL points from the Guerrillas last year, completely new rosters could mean anything can happen.

On paper, we slightly favour Seattle here at Midnite, however we’re expecting to see a close match.

Atlanta FaZe (1.23) vs Florida Mutineers (3.50)

Arcitys has joined Simp, aBeZy and Cellium to act as a leader this season. With some poor decision making costing FaZe multiple times in Hardpoint last year, we’ll be looking at Arcitys to change this.

The Florida Mutineers definitely have the upset potential. Last year they were one of the only teams able to keep up with the speed of the Tiny Terrors. Depending on whether Havok or Neptune plays, this could be a completely different game. However, FaZe might just be too strong regardless.

Day one of the Kickoff Classic begins at 8PM GMT on Saturday Jan. 23. You can watch on the Call of Duty League YouTube Channel.
