CDL Stage 3 Major - Day 2 Preview

Charlie Cater

The Stage 3 Major is upon us, and with almost every team having a chance at taking the win, here’s the rundown on Day 2’s matches, including the odds.

Minnesota ROKKR (1.84) vs London Royal Ravens (1.80)

Minnesota ROKKR are also a team that struggled in Stage 3, with a 2-3 record, only beating LA Guerrillas and Paris Legion. While they have shown they can beat the best, it wasn't coming together for them in the last Stage. While this is a winnable match, they’re facing a momentum filled London, and will need to be on the top of their game.

London Royal Ravens are getting better and better every single series, and coming off the back of two straight wins and a great Stage 3, they could be dangerous. Zed has been the driving force for this squad, and PaulEhx has really stepped it up recently. Control is London’s only game mode with a positive record this season, however, ROKKR have also looked great in the swing mode. This will without a doubt be the game defining moment, and if the Ravens take it, London could make a losers run here, and are a great bet.

OpTic Chicago (1.50) vs Los Angeles Guerrillas (2.30)

OpTic Chicago have struggled in recent weeks, and are yet to show major signs of improvement. However, this is their chance to make a statement, and secure a solid losers bracket run. Currently 3-2 in Search and Destroy during Stage 3, this has been their best game mode. If they can stay consistent, they should win this match.

The Los Angeles Guerrillas are coming off the back of a 3-1 win over Seattle Surge. We don't expect them to go any further from here, and OpTic should send them home. With their SnD being so good, if they can force a game five, they could surprise us. However, OpTic’s Search has been their best game mode in Stage 3, so this will not be easy for the Guerrillas.

Atlanta FaZe (1.42) vs Toronto Ultra (2.52)

While it may seem that Atlanta FaZe have struggled recently, they only have three losses throughout the whole season. The clutch factor on this squad is second to none, and their recent performances have been dominant, with a 3-1 and a 3-0. The SMG battle is a key factor in this match. Simp & aBeZy need to out-slay Bance & CleanX if FaZe are to win this matchup.

Toronto Ultra are undefeated in Stage 3, and have only dropped one map. This incredible streak puts them near the top with the best Call of Duty teams of all time, with their teamwork being impeccable, and individual excellence leading to dominant performances. Their Search and Destroy has also been excellent, winning 12 out of their last 13 SnD’s.

New York Subliners (1.56) vs Florida Mutineers (2.18)

Securing the #1 Seed in their group was a great start for the New York Subliners. Currently on a 9 game Hardpoint win streak since the addition of HyDra, their aggression in respawns is incredible to watch, and has worked without fault. However, the Major brings a new level of pressure. Clayster and the squad will need to focus up, and continue their group stage dominance when it matters.

The Florida Mutineers shocked many with a 3-1 victory over the LA Thieves last night. This match was dominated by Neptune, as he stepped up to the plate and was deservedly voted MVP. Florida have an absurd amount of confidence right now, after challenging LA Thieves on two Checkmate’s. This match won't be easy at all, but if the Mutineers take Map 1, it could be over already.
