All-ladies squad XSET to debut at DreamHack Open December 2020

Henrieta Hyrlikova

Among all those prestigious tournaments going on right now, DreamHack Open December 2020 is a special one. It’s a debut tournament for XSET, a brand new CS:GO team made of well-known veterans. But what’s so special about them? It’s an all-ladies roster!

DreamHack Open December will feature a female squad in a male-dominated competition with some of the top CS:GO teams. Girls from XSET are experienced players who've been in competitive CS:GO for years. Before signing with the North American organisation last month, the team was known as Team Originem. They’ve seen great success this year, picking up wins in three all-women tournaments: Ambush Invitational, DreamHack Showdown Summer and Galaxy Racer Invitational.

The roster features players well-known on female CS:GO scene, such as the leader of the squad Julia “juliano” Kiran or Zainab “zAAz” Turkie. Girls qualified for December Open by winning the Summer Showdown event. Even though this will be their baptism of fire, it's not the first time they are competing against male opposition. They faced AVANGAR and Hard Legion at DreamHack Open Rotterdam 2019, getting defeated by both.

XSET will open the tournament with a match against Virtus.pro. Considering Virtus.pro’s current form, it doesn’t look good for XSET. The only way VP could lose this, is if they still were in shock from the amount of money they recently won at Flashpoint 2. However, girls insist on playing with top-tier teams to uplevel their play: "We hope to get more results in the male tournaments and to prove that we are a better team and that we can compete with the male teams — maybe not like Tier 1, but Tier 2 and 3," said Anastasia "kr4sylya" Khlobystina in a statement for Dexerto.

Tournament preview

DreamHack Open December starts tomorrow, December 10th at 12AM GMT and will run until December 13h.

Eight teams split in two groups of four will be fighting for a shared prize of $100,000 and a bunch of EPT Points.

The tournament will be using double-elimination (GSL) best-of-three format, with the top two teams out of each group advancing to a single-elimination playoff bracket that will culminate in a best-of-five grand final on Sunday.

Group A: Virtus.pro, forZe, ESPADA, XSET
