The Ravens Soar to Dallas: How did they get here?

Charlie Cater

This week the Call of Duty League returns to LAN for the first time since March 8th, 2020 for the Stage 4 Major. In contrast to last year, all 12 teams will be in attendance, and while LAN may seem like home for most, some players will be experiencing it for the first time.

For the London Royal Ravens, PaulEhx and Afro will be experiencing their first LAN in the Call of Duty League, while it will feel like second nature for Seany and Alexx. After a competitive Stage 4, London will start the Major in the first round of the Lower Bracket. Let’s take a look at how they got here.

London Royal Ravens’ Stage 4

Ahead of Stage 4 of the 2021 Call of Duty League season, the London Royal Ravens made a roster change. While Zaptius and Zed departed the squad, Alexx and Afro arrived in the US, and began work immediately.

Their first match saw them take on a new look Dallas Empire. This match went the distance. However, the Ravens were unable to hold out, and suffered a 3-2 loss. Regardless, there were positives to take from this series, with PaulEhx putting up a 1.20 Overall K/D as he showed us what he can do as a third SMG.

Just two days later, London took on a galvanized Florida Mutineers. This match was over quickly, as the Mutineers 3-0’d. However, a closely fought Hardpoint saw the Ravens garner 211 points as they continued their streak of good Hardpoint performances.

The following week began with the Ravens taking on Major 2 Winners, Toronto Ultra. This saw London suffer their second 3-0 defeat in a row. While the Search and Destroy went to Round 11, the Royal Ravens were unable to close out the map.

A fourth straight loss and third straight 3-0 came against the New York Subliners. Again, the Ravens came close in the Search and Destroy as it went the distance, but were unable to close out the map.

However, they didn't let this get to them, as their fifth match of the Stage came against the Los Angeles Guerrillas, where London truly made their mark. The Ravens started the match with intent, taking a 250-68 win in Map 1. This was followed by a 6-5 Search and Destroy win, as the Ravens won their first Round 11 of the season. The series was closed out in four, and Afro had his first MVP performance of the season. A massive 1.38 Overall K/D saw him completely dominate in the series.

From Charlotte to Dallas

After playing out of Charlotte, North Carolina throughout the Online season, London will finally touch down in Dallas for this week's LAN Major. Heading into the Major, they’re complete underdogs. However, their map pool is wide, confidence is high and momentum is with them.

Their first match sees them take on Seattle Surge. A current 1-1 series record in the 2021 season makes this match seem even. However, with London yet to win a Search and Destroy against the Surge, and yet to lose a Control, this match may take breaking a record to win.
